SCE&G, Santee Cooper Sell Settlement for Summer Project

Meanwhile, in South Carolina, state utility Santee Cooper and South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. have agreed to sell their share of the $2.2 billion, five-year settlement over the failed project to build Units 2 and 3 at the V. C. Summer Station so they can recover nearly 92 percent of the cash immediately. While South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster said he's still working to revive the abandoned project, if that plan fails he wants consumers to get their money back. The utilities, however, have said they have no plans to reimburse customers for nuclear surcharges supporting the nuclear build project. Instead, they have said the money should prevent more rate hikes in the near future.
