Discussions Continue for UK's Proposed Wylfa Newydd Plant

Japanese firm Hitachi exited a £20 billion (US$25.8 billion) project to build a two-unit nuclear power plant on the Welsh island of Anglesey last month, but developer Horizon Nuclear Power has sent two letters to ministers stating talks with other "third parties" are continuing. A decision on a Development Consent Order (DCO) for the Wylfa Newydd Nuclear Power Plant project that was due to be made on September 30 has been delayed until December 31, as requested by Horizon Nuclear Power, the UK project developer owned by Japan’s Hitachi. Horizon CEO Duncan Hawthorne noted in a letter to the UK's Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, "a short extension to the decision deadline would be beneficial to enable Horizon to work constructively with its key stakeholders to ascertain the options for the Wylfa Newydd DCO Project and secure its future."
