EnergySolutions Subsidiary Signs Contract to Acquire Three Mile Island Unit 2 Plant

EnergySolutions, Inc. has signed a contract with FirstEnergy Corp. subsidiaries GPU Nuclear, Inc., Metropolitan Edison Co., Jersey Central Power & Light Co., and Pennsylvania Electric Co. to acquire all licenses and assets of Unit 2 at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Station in Pennsylvania. Under the agreement, the facility would be transferred to a subsidiary of EnergySolutions known as TMI-2 Solutions, LLC. The agreement also facilitates applications to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities for approval of the transfer, followed by decommissioning of Unit 2.
