China Starts Construction of Reactor Using Hualong One Design

China National Nuclear Corp. (CNNC) has been granted construction licenses for Units 1 and 2 of the Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Plant, in the country's eastern Fujian province, by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. The units were originally planned to be based on Westinghouse's AP1000 design, but will now feature the domestically designed, thirdgeneration Hualong One PWR jointly designed by China General Nuclear Power Group and CNNC. CNNC noted that the project marks the official start of the "batch construction" of Hualong One. The Zhangzhou Plant will include six 1,000 MWe Hualong One units.
