HOUSE APPROPRIATORS HECKLE CHU ON 2010 NUCLEAR BUDGET

Energy Secretary Steven Chu weathered a number of blows on nuclear power from House appropriators last week in his first appearance before the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee, but he stayed largely on message and provided few insights about the Administration's intentions with regard to some nuclear energy programs. During a June 3 hearing on the FY 2010 budget request, Chu hedged while answering a question on whether the Administration supports more nuclear energy loan guarantees, and dodged another on the Department's strategy for actual deployment of the nuclear technologies under development.
