HOUSE APPROPRIATORS QUESTION DOE'S R&D BUDGET FOR NUCLEAR

House appropriators expressed concern last week that the Department of Energy does not have a cohesive plan for its nuclear energy research and development program. Energy & Water Appropriations Subcommittee Vice-chairman Ed Pastor (D-Ariz.) took DOE Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy Pete Miller to task for not having submitted a nuclear energy research and development strategic plan called for in the Fiscal Year 2010 appropriations act, and sought answers to several questions about DOE's plans for certain programs. "While we have yet to see the nuclear energy strategic plan promised to us, we hope to see it soon," Pastor said during his opening remarks at the March 23 hearing.
