WANO: the next two years

The mission of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO), established in May 1989, is to maximise the safely and reliability of nuclear power plants by encouraging member nuclear operators to openly exchange operational information and experience. As WANO membership is not dependent on political or diplomatic relations, WANO is unique in terms of international cooperation. WANO's activities are carried out by regional centres located in Atlanta, Moscow, Paris and Tokyo, and coordinated by the centre in London, which also serves as the secretariat of WANO governing board. The regional centres make up the core of WANO activities, with each one of them functioning more or less autonomously. This unique structure functions very well to serve the purpose of promoting coordinated activities, while recognising cultural differences among members.
