European Community research on improving the governance of nuclear waste management and other risks

Increasing attention is being given to broader socio- economic issues (eg, science and society, governance of risk, etc) within the European Commission's research programmes. This reflects the recognition of the impor- tance of such issues for science policy and decision making with respect to nuclear and other technologies. This paper summarises those projects, supported by the Commission's Euratom research programme, which Focus on socio-economic as opposed to narrower techni- Cal issues. These projects are concerned with risk Governance in general, the governance of nuclear waste Management and stakeholder involvement in the off-site Management of accidents.
