The ever-unfolding saga of British Energy's (BE's) financial restructuring has been reported in the newspapers over many months and the roots of BE's problems are even older still. Anyone who is even a moderate supporter of nuclear power must be depressed by the tale as, just when those with power and influence are beginning to see that nuclear is an essential ingredient of a sustainable energy future, a new question arises: who will build and operate any future nuclear plant?
