摘要

The ALARA/ALARP principle has become a very useful tool for the regulators to control risks, to workers and the public from radiological exposures, to acceptable levels. In fact, it has become, de facto, a regulatory requirement to apply this principle when the doses and risks are higher than the BSO and progressively so when they are significantly higher. However, the rigorous application of this methodology is quite involved and time consuming. The five steps described in this paper would help to carry out the rigorous assessment of ALARP requirement. In applying this methodology, one should delineate population groups into workers and the public and the effects on them from normal operations and in accident conditions. The reason for such delineation is that the regulatory parameters for BSL and BSO for workers and public are different, both in normal operations and in accident situations. Compliance with the BSO requirements and then, if required, estimating the disproportion factor for an option to demonstrate that ALARP methodology has been properly implemented to satisfy regulatory requirement, is the main thrust of this paper.
