Industrialists and researchers, meeting at a seminar on the 11th of May, at Manchester University, agreed that many actions are needed if the UK is to develop the capability to construct new nuclear power stations in time and to budget. The seminar was organised by the Manchester Business School, the Dalton Nuclear Institute and the Large Project Governance (LPG) Project - a joint research programme of Helsinki University of Technology, Abo Akademi University and University of Oulu. It brought together the nuclear power industry, universities, and regulatory authorities. The speakers drew on reports of Pressurised Water Reactor projects being constructed in France and Finland and from a current review of past UK experience of the Magnox, AGR and Sizewell programmes.
