New nuclear strategy puts renewed emphasis on security

The UK government has allocated £20million to set up a nuclear centre of excellence to encourage access to civil nuclear energy around the world and help develop a 'proliferation-resistant' nuclear fuel cycle. In a strategy paper released on 16th July, the government said the centre will promote the development of cost-effective civil nuclear technology which is much harder for terrorists and states with hostile intent to divert for use in weapons programmes.
