Japan's cabinet retreats on total nuclear phase-out

Japan's government has approved its future energy and environment policy without endorsing the phasing out of nuclear power by the 2030s. The Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF) said in a statement that the policy was adopted at a cabinet meeting on September 19. But JAIF said the cabinet did not wholly adopt the strategy document itself, which called for phasing out nuclear power in Japan by the 2030s.
