Official figures suggest that a fifth of graduates are still unemployed after six months. With these bleak stats looming over me I decided to grasp the opportunity to join the Media and Promotions team at Sellafield Ltd, with both hands. I was interested to know more about the plant and how Stakeholder Relations operate, but before I could start I was put through rigorous security clearing. I waited over three months for clearance, so my advice to all future summer students would be - get organised and make sure you start clearance early as it's a lengthy process! In the weeks leading up to my start date, I was a mix of nerves and excitement but I was determined to make the most of my time. In the past I've taken placements where I've gained little experience. I dreaded being sat ignored in a corner again, but thankfully I was given responsibilities and work I could sink my teeth into.
