A day to remember

Monday 21 October was a very eventful day for the Nuclear Institute. First was the announcement of the 'strike price' for electricity from Hinkley Point C, with an option for a slightly reduced combined strike price if the consortium also proceeds with Sizewell C. This marks the end of an extended period of negotiation and clears the way for the long-awaited process of construction and commissioning of new nuclear power stations in the UK. We can confidently expect that the demand for skilled employees by both the main contractors and the supply chain will now begin to accelerate. Through its work with the National Skills Academy for Nuclear the Institute is already engaged in ensuring that the supply of future professionals meets our 'Nuclear Delta' standard. There is an opportunity for the Institute to further expand its activities in this area and the trustees will be taking an active interest as the programme develops.
