Making the most of your Chartered titles

We have explored the value of professionalism in the past in these pages (Nov/Dec 2018) and particularly the value that it gives to you as an individual. Whilst anyone, and indeed many, can call themselves a 'professional', what the client/ employer/general public needs to ask is 'How can you prove it?' Professional bodies act as independent regulators so that those claiming to be professional have the means to prove it. They do so against a set of known standards (or competences) and set in place the means of accrediting those individuals for that profession. Independent recognition of the extent and currency of your knowledge is helpful in progressing your career and for your employer to evidence the professionalism of their teams. But it is also important to the rest of society as well.
