A System Approach to the Analysis of Transmission Lines of Complicated Cross Sections and Their Planar Junctions

A system approach to the calculation of eigenmode spectra in transmission lines of complicated cross sections with coordinate piecewise linear boundaries is considered. The approach is based on the trans- verse resonance technique and a system of electromagnetic simulation is used as a tool for rapid implementation of corresponding numerical algorithms. The analysis of planar transverse junctions of such transmission lines is based of the standard partial-domain method; the algorithms take into account the fact that basis functions are specified in partial domains and perform automatic determinations of the matrix specifying mutual inter- sections of partial domains in the cross sections of the connected waveguides. A new method for determination of the spectrum of degenerated TEM waves in multiconductor transmission lines is proposed and investigated. An example of application of the developed package of algorithms to the calculation of a fragment of a multi- layer integrated circuit is presented.
