The properties and dispersion dependence of a surface electromagnetic wave (SEMW) propagating in in-plane magnetized ferrite-composite and ferrite-dielectric-composite structures are studied experimentally. The structures are fully saturated and contain a lattice of conducting metal strips as a composite. These dependences are compared to similar characteristics of a ferrite-dielectric-metal structure. Backward surface waves were first observed in both structures. The group velocities of these waves propagating in the above structures were substantially different, and their group velocity vectors were oriented in the opposite directions.
