The electromagnetic field in a coaxial cavity is considered. The problem of diffraction of the azimuth-dependent H mode by a circumferential slot in the inner wall of the cavity and by an adjacent infinite dielectric cylinder is solved. The method of decomposition in simple H and E modes of a slotless cavity is used. The homogeneous Fredholm integral equations of the first kind for the H- and E-polarized field functions on the slot are discretized using the Bubnov-Galerkin method and solved using Tikhonov's regularization method. The use of a system of sinusoidal basis functions in the discretization, which yields no field singularities at the slot edges, is justified. The dependence of the resonant oscillation-complex wavenumber on slot location and on dielectric permittivity is investigated.
