The experience obtained previously in the studies of highly efficient centimeter- and millimeter-wavelength pulsed orotrons with a weakly relativistic electron beam is used to consider the problems encountered during the elaboration of a high-powered widely tunable orotron operating in the short-wavelength part of the millimeter-wave band. The dependence of the electron-wave interaction efficiency on certain parameters of an open electrodynamic orotron system is estimated in the experiment. In the frequency range from 78 to 145 GHz, the orotron power level exceeds that of continuous diffraction radiation generators manyfold.
