JOINET: INFORMATION SERVICE ARCHITECTURE AND APPLIED SYSTEM

Information technologies in telecommunications and broadcasting have made great advances, mainly through digtialization, increases in capacity, and the greater variety of services. However to fully exploit their potential, information services based on new architectures should be developed. This Special Edition reports a new information service architecture called JoiNet and its service applications. The word JoiNet is intended to convey the meanings "Join the Net"and "Joyful Net". This article overviews the properties of the information medium and the features of the JoiNet architecture, and outlines JoiNet service application systems.
