Industry pushes for onshoring PPE

The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the nonwoven industry’s dependency on China when it comes to PPE production and fabric sourcing, with supply chain disruption leading to global shortages and inevitable price gouging. As a result, we’ve seen various regions invest in domestic meltblown facilities to enable them to build up a sufficient supply of these vital products. For instance, in Europe, Italy’s RadiciGroup has invested €15m in a new production line for meltblown nonwoven – calling it a “strategic decision aimed at more independent Italian production of personal protective equipment”.
