NKK jointly developed a direct-fired regenerative burner in collaboration with Nippon Furnace Kogyo. The new burner is equipped with a honeycomb regenerator, which provides advantages in compact- Ness, thermal response and heat exchange efficiency over conventional ball regenerators. In addi- Tion, the NO_x emissions from the burner are reduced to 40 ppm(calculated at 11/100 oxygen concentra- Tion)at a preheated air temperature of 1570 K. This reduction was achieved by applying two-stage Combustion and optimizing the burner hardware design.
