In its publicity for the 32-year-old tenor Roberto Alagna, his record company has put out a list of "Interesting Facts": that he was discovered singing in a Paris pizzeria, for instance, and that he hates being compared to the Three Tenors. Some of these facts are even true, though not the pizzeria thing. "I guess they promote that story because it sounds romantic," he says. But he is entirely self-taught, and he is sick of being called the Fourth Tenor, or the next Pavarotti. "Really, it's so annoying," says Alagna. "But I'm prepared." He pulls a rubber Pavarotti mask out of his pocket and pulls it over his head.
