In 1973 howard hawks and peter Bogdanovich paid a call on John Ford two months before he died. Hawks and Ford were already legendary directors. Bogdanovich, then at the dazzling beginning of his career, had gotten to know the older men back in the '60s, when he was a journalist and film scholar. In the course of writing books about both Ford and Hawks, he had peppered them with questions for years. So the first thing Ford said to Hawks after hello was "Howard, does he ask you all those goddamn questions, too?"
