In The Summer Of 2003, I Took leave from my job to care for my mother, Ada, who was in hospice care, terminally ill with emphysema. Every day I tried to come up with something special or fun to distract her from the never-ending regimen of 17 medications, breathing treatments every four hours and the anxiety I knew she was feeling. It's not that we were in denial about the situation.
