General motors and Chrysler say they'll be broke by New Year's if taxpayers balk at a $34 billion bailout for the U.S. auto industry. But what about Ford? It's actually benefiting from the stink of bankruptcy hovering over its rivals. As auto sales cratered this fall, Ford's U.S. market share grew-to 16.1 percent last month from 14.7 in November 2007. The reason, says IHS Global Insight analyst John Wolkonowicz: "Because [car buyers] think they're in much better health."
