You'd think kristi Burton would be a hero to the pro-life establishment. She's only 21, still lives with her parents in Peyton, Colo., and is still in law school, but Burton has already succeeded where many like-minded activists have failed: she crafted an amendment to her state's constitution that defines a fertilized egg as a person and got her proposal on the Nov. 4 ballot. Amendment 48 is the first "personhood" measure to reach a vote and amounts to a direct challenge to abortion's legality. Burton, however, has found resistance in an odd place.
