Although the first quarter of 2015 was relatively quiet for KiwiRail, insofar as new developments are concerned, there has been plenty happening in the excursion and preservation scenes. In January Steam Inc ran their Eketahuna Express with A~B608 Passchendaele which started at Paekakariki and travelled to Palmerston North, Woodville and on to Masterton, before returning to Paekakariki over the same track. It was a glorious summer day and the red heritage carriages, hauled by a beautifully restored locomotive, looked impressive. New Zealand's oldest working steam locomotive, F13 Peveril, returned to steam at Ferrymead in January and there is good coverage of this little locomotive, as well as others, hauling passenger trains between Moorhouse and Ferrymead.
