摘要

The Northern Wairoa Flax Company was established in 1926 to harvest and process flax from a swamp lying two miles or so north of Dargaville. The mill was built close to the Kaihu Branch's Parore station, from where the processed flax was dispatched by rail. After the Kaihu line closed in 1959, flax was trucked to Dargaville station for dispatch. This was still the arrangement at the time of my visit. The company's flax swamp occupied a space in the'Y'formed by the parting of the Kaihu and the Dargaville Branches, a mile or so north of the Dargaville township. The Dargaville Branch ran along the southern outskirts of the swamp, while the Kaihu Branch ran along its western side.
