The invention relates to a method and to an associated apparatus for producing a meltblown nonwoven, in which a plurality of synthetic filaments are extruded from a tool, stretched by means of hot process air and are laid on a band screen to form a meltblown nonwoven. In the region where the filaments are laid, an extraction flow through the band screen is assisted by means of an extraction device arranged below the band screen. In known methods and apparatuses, it is very awkward to set an air permeability of the meltblown nonwoven to a required value, as is often required in the case of filter applications. Therefore, an air permeability of the meltblown nonwoven is measured by means of an air permeability sensor arranged below or above the meltblown nonwoven which is running past. By automatic adaptation of the process air and/or the extraction flow through the band screen and/or a distance between tool and band screen, a target value of the air permeability of the meltblown nonwoven is achieved by means of a control device.
