A Tale of Loss and Salvation - the New Lynn Signal Box

The signal box's life began in 1915 when it started service on 30 August that year. Fifty-five years later it was decommissioned when the NZR placed the four stations -New Lynn, Glen Eden, Henderson and Swanson - under Centralised Traffic Control in 1970. At this point the signal boxes and much other infrastructure at the stations became redundant and they were offered for sale, provided they were removed in a timely manner. Thus began the second and last journey for the New Lynn signal box.
