Brunei University lies on the Western edge of London, at the end of the Metropolitan Underground line, after which the poet John Betjeman called these suburbs, with their soaring trees and mock-Tudor avenues, Metroland. Brunei has readily adopted the judgment of the British educational press, describing itself as a modern, dynamic institution. The campus itself reflects this identity, with concrete cladding, aluminium screening, glass atria and walls painted terracotta, fuschia or lime that visually negate the notions of dreaming spires, ivory towers or an ivy league.
