DNA microarray is one of the most promising new technologies for gene expression profiling, genotyping, drug discovery screening and others, and will have a huge impact on the future science and industry. Although development of hardware, arraying technology and automatic processing and hybridization systems for example, has been advanced to the stage of a few key technologies dominating the field, there is still room for new technologies for software: construction of databases used in microarrays and computer systems for databases. As the human genome sequencing is coming to completion, more information regarding genes, cDNAs and ESTs (expressed sequence tags), and functional domains and motifs, will have more significance, and they will be the important source of microarray databases.
