Takenaka Engineering Co., Ltd. has developed a Diaper Sensor for use on aged persons requiring nursing or on hospitalized patients and which senses urination and excretion, and transmits the signals to a receiver with a weak radio wave, which notifies the situation to the nurse through a nurse call system or a display panel. Diaper Sensor uses diaper sensing paper first fitted onto the transmitter, next the transmitter is put on the patient so that the sensing portion at the sensing paper fore end is positioned at the excretion point. Depending on the patient size, the sensing paper is folded, its length adjusted and the paper set at the excretion point, after which the patient wears the diaper. The transmitter is folded outside the diaper and wrapped with the diaper cover. As the transmitter tends to get out of position, tape is used to prevent slippage. When urine or excrement is excreted, the sensor paper detects the urine or excrement and transmits a radio signal to the transmitter. This signal is intercepted with the receiver, and transmitted to the hospital nurse call unit or display panel interlinked to the receiver beforehand, by which the individual patient and room are known.
