Tokyo's 6 million drivers will soon have an intelligent route guidance system that will give them early warning of traffic jams and help them avoid getting stuck. Apart from a few isolated experiments, including two in London and Berlin, this is the world's first large scale commercial application of smart navigation for cars. The Intelligent Traffic Guidance System is being jointly operated by a consortium of six organisations, which include Mercedes-Benz Japan, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police.
