Method for breaking up a motorway traffic jam in which an information providing arrangement, is mounted in or on a vehicle that travels in the opposing direction to traffic in the jam and transmits or makes visible or audible information to the drivers in the jam so that they are ready to respond as soon as the jam starts to break-up. The invention also relates to a corresponding arrangement for clearing a traffic jam.
