Living cells turned into data stores

THE DNA in live bacteria has been edited to encode and store information. This could be a step towards creating a new medium for long-term data storage.Life's genetic information is held in DNA, but there is growing interest in using it as a storage vehicle for other kinds of data. To do so, information is often encoded using the four DNA bases that make up the genetic code. The required sequence of bases can then be chemically synthesised in a laboratory, and even stored in everyday objects.
