Digital television penetration in the UK reached 88 per cent by the end of June, equivalent to 22.5 million homes, according to research from Ofcom. The communications regulator's Digital Television Update for the second quarter of the year showed that digital-television penetration on main television sets increased by 0.8 percentage points from the previous three months, representing 350,000 new digital homes (see fig. 1). Now that the majority of main sets receive digital television, consumers are converting additional sets in their homes with secondary-set conversions increasing by 800,000 in the three months to the end of June. Of the 35.7 million secondary television sets in UK homes, 55 per cent have now been converted to digital (see fig. 2).
