EPG trading going to plan, says BSkyB

Six months after it halted channel launches on its Sky Digital platform, BSkyB said it was satisfied that its new trading regime for slots on its electronic programme guide (EPG) was working as intended. The company last year imposed a moratorium on channel launches on its satellite-television platform, citing capacity constraints on older generations of set-top boxes (NMM October 10, 2007). At the same time, BSkyB put in place a formal system for broadcasters to trade slots on the Sky Digital EPG and published guidelines on the process in January. Nicola Bamford, BSkyB director of channels and operations, said this week: "We've already seen a number of channels launch through EPG-slot trading and it's clear that the open market is delivering for both buyers and sellers alike."
