NBC Universal, the entertainment company owned by General Electric and Vivendi, said this week that its international television business was well placed to weather the economic downturn because of its portfolio of strong channel brands.rnThe company believes that the tougher economic climate is prompting pay-television operators to be more selective when choosing which channels to launch.rnIt said that broadcasters with well-established channel brands - such as its own Universal Channel, Sci Fi and Hallmark channels - were in a strong position as a result.
