It could take 50 years for Japan's nuclear industry to recover from the 2011 tsunami, and the reconstruction of Japanese coastal ports to take up to two decades, a key figure involved in the country's reconstruction has told the ICE.Members heard about the challenges of rebuilding Japan's infrastructure from one of the country's leading experts on the subject at the ICE last week. Chair of the infrastructure planning committee at the Japan Society of Civil Engineers Kiyoshi Koba-yashi briefed engineers on the reconstruction programme after the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit in March, killing 22,000 people.
