ICE member Kate Cooksey, a tunnelling engineer at Morgan Sindall, has scooped the 2012 Karen Burt Award for the best newly qualified chartered engineer. The Karen Burt memorial award, run by the Women's Engineering Society, is presented annually to a newly chartered woman in engineering, applied science and IT. It recognises excellence and potential in the practice of engineering, highlights the importance of chartered status, and recognises efforts made to promote the engineering profession.
