Laing O'Rourke wins £200M Swansea Barrage work

Laing O'Rourke has won a £200M deal to work on the pioneering Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon scheme. The Dartford-based contractor was named as preferred bidder for the contract to build the turbine house and sluice structure block for the £ibn renewable energy project. Tidal Lagoon Power's bid to build a 9.6km seawall in Swansea Bay is subject to planning permission and negotiations over a contract for difference. The 410m turbine house and sluice structure block will require up to 500 workers at peak construction, with many expected to come from South Wales. Laing O'Rourke named Arup as its lead design and engineering partner for the contract.
