November 2019 saw record breaking autumn rainfall, with serious flooding in the UK. Venice was under water on each high tide. The United States Thanksgiving holiday was disrupted by two major storm systems bringing unusually early snow. And there have been a record number of bush fires in Australia. The latest report on climate change from the United Nations gives little comfort. It concludes that even if all the countries follow through with the promises they have made to cut emissions, there would still be a rise in the earth's temperature of 3°C by the end of the century. This will cause significant and irreversible damage to human, plant and animal life across the planet. While there has been progress by some countries, the reality is that emissions have increased by 1.5% per year in the past decade.
