Thames Estuary hub airport backers say it could be built as quickly as Heathrow runway

Architect Foster & Partners has revealed details of its response to the Airports Commission's call for evidence about the Thames Estuary airport plan. The case for its proposal is being made on the basis that the UK's hub airport must be able to operate 24 hours a day. The architecture firm said this would only be possible by developing the estuary airport. A new airport with four runways and the capacity for future expansion will cost $24bn, it added. The planning processes for its plan and that of a third runway at Heathrow would be identical and construction of the new airport would only take slightly longer, it claimed.
