The airport runway has heating elements (12a,12b) installed below the runway surface. One or more power units for heat energy and/or electrical power is/are connected to the heated elements. Independent claims are also included for a method of installing a heating system in an existing airport runway is claimed independently. TECHNOLOGY FOCUS ELECTRICAL POWER AND ENERGY - The energy source coupled to the heating elements for the runway may employ solar collectors.
