A new play about the life and work of Isambard Kingdom Brunei will premiere this summer in London. It will be staged within the Thames Tunnel shaft - the huge underground chamber above the railway in Rotherhithe. The shaft was famously constructed by the father and son team of Marc and Isambard Kingdom Brunei and dubbed "the eighth wonder of the world" when it opened. The play, also called "the Eighth Wonder of the World", tells the story of the Brunels who on 10 November 1827 were preparing to host a party in the tunnel shaft to help restore their public reputation following some construction setbacks.
