Architect Tate Harmer has released the first images of the new staircase that is planned for Rotherhithes Brunei Museum, which will give visitors full access to the shaft of Brunei's Thames Tunnel for the first time. The freestanding cantilevered staircase will be entirely independent of the Grade Ⅱ-listed shaft and is adjacent to the Thames Tunnel Engine House in which the museum is located. The shaft originally had a grand staircase to offer pedestrian access to the tunnel, but was removed when the tunnel was converted for railway use and the shaft became part of the ventilation system.
