SAN FRANCISCO - Microsoft is trying to rally the high-tech industry and its customers around an idea the vendor is calling "end-to-end trust" a system for the Internet where identity claims can be validated securely across heterogeneous systems. "We believe that end-to-end trust will transform how the industry thinks about and approaches online trust and securityT said Craig Mundie, Microsoft's chief research and strategy officer, in his keynote address at last week's RSA Conference. Microsoft wants broad feedback not just from high-tech but government, businesses and the general public, to make its vision of more trustworthy and intuitive systems a reality As to what end-to-end trust might entail, Microsoft published a 20-page white paper, stating "the path forward" includes having a "trusted stack" of devices, operating system, applications, people and data, plus an audit trail."We want to formalize a dialogue with a lot more people," Mundie said."We need a collaboration with a lot of people making products in this area."
